Port Overview

The Ports of Hampton Roads has key natural advantages; 18 miles from the open sea, a deep channel, and ice free year round. Hampton Roads continues to develop and enhance these natural advantages to ensure effectiveness in an increasingly competitive industry. State-of-the-art terminal facilities, an efficient labor force, and excellent intermodal capabilities are a result of these ongoing enhancements.

Norfolk International Terminal

  Norfolk International Terminal (NIT)

Norfolk International Terminal (NIT) is the largest terminal in the port. NIT is home to three of the Port's Kone dual-hoist super cranes. The terminal's north berth, 300-acre expansion, has doubled its cargo handling capacity. This expansion adds 4,300 ft. of additional berths, and increases NIT's capacity by 850,000 TEU’s annually. The expansion includes 50 ft. berths and cranes capable of reaching 22 containers wide on a vessel.

  Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT)

The Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) is the second largest terminal with respect to containership berth space. Among PMT's many cranes is the fourth Kone super crane with lift capacity of 40 LT. PMT's versatility makes it excellent for handling containers, RoRo and break bulk cargo. Features of this terminal include refrigerated hook-ups, specialized warehouse space, fumigation facilities and straddle-carrier container stacking.

  Newport News Marine Terminal (NNMT)

Newport News Marine Terminal (NNMT) has gained a reputation as the premier steel and project cargo handling port on the U.S. East Coast. NNMT boasts various heavy-lift crane capabilities, warehouse space, auto processing facilities and container cranes.

  Lambert's Point Docks

For more than 50 years, Lambert’s Point Docks has served shippers, manufacturers and brokers, handling their import and export needs from one of the East Coast’s finest natural, deep-water harbors. As Virginia’s largest breakbulk marine terminal, Lambert’s Point Docks moves more than a half-million tons of cargo annually.
